I know, many things in life are things we have to do. I have to get a colonoscopy. I have to go to the dentist. I have to do my taxes. Thankfully, these things are intermittent. We can’t say that about our work. Does being at work always have to be about “have?”

Is Glassdoor.com a true lens into what It’s like to work for a company, or, are things really better or worse than the ratings indicate?  Furthermore, are job seekers and investors taking these ratings seriously when they consider which company to work for and for which companies to invest? My guess is “yes” and the ratings are probably not too far off of reality.

Over the years, I’ve seen too many quality people leave organizations because of rigid salary practices and office politics; taking their knowledge surplus with them. I’m not suggesting that companies pay significantly over market for any given role, but allowing bureaucracy to destroy employee loyalty makes little sense, is a value killer, and happens daily.

Think about that statement for a moment. How many of us really look forward to going to work each day? I wish I had a dime for every time I see the grumbling memes on social media complaining about Mondays and looking forward to Fridays.
